What is an Annual Hydraulic/Safety Test?

This is a once a year test done on the emergency safety devices for your equipment. Your maintenance company is capable of performing this test for you, and in jurisdictions that require witnessing, our inspectors are qualified to do so. On a Hydraulic elevator this test includes but is not limited to: verifying that in a catastrophic event, your unit can NOT blow out the oil line or jack, and that unseen portions of the line and jack aren't leaking. On an Electric elevator this test includes but is not limited to the overspeed governor being tripped to verify that the emergency safeties will set and can hold the elevator. Any other equipment with safety devices or switches that can't be tested under normal conditions require an annual test as well.

Why do I need an elevator inspection?

It's like the inspection for your car. State Law requires code inspections because it's not always easy to notice unsafe things if you don't know what to look for, or if you aren't looking for them. Our inspectors are trained to find things that might otherwise be overlooked.

What is the difference between an elevator maintenance company and an elevator inspection company?

It's the difference between work and inspection. Your Maintenance company conducts preventative maintenance, replaces parts as needed, and performs the annual and five year tests. We, your Inspection company, fulfill the state required Safety Code Inspections per ASME A17.1 (American Standards of Mechanical Engineers).

Please see the SERVICES section to help you identify what type of unit you have.

Why is a safety inspection important?

Despite being the safest form of public transportation, there are risks with any man made mechanical equipment. In this day and age, accidents equal lawsuits. As certified inspectors, we are qualified to help you identify issues with your equipment, which your maintenance company can help you address.

What is a 5 Year Safety Test?

This test is also performed by your maintenance company once every five years. It only applies to Electric elevators and those with safeties (does not include “Pressure Relief Valve”). It encompasses the annual safety test, but does so with the full load (capacity) of the car. This test also verifies the trip speed and grip strength of the governor, the force required to set the safeties, that the brake can hold at least 125% of the load, and many other things.

Need something other than an inspection?

We offer code consulting, modernization specifications, and equipment evaluations to help you choose the right equipment.
